Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH) Visit to Robben Island
On the 8th of April Uthando facilitated a visit by 90 of the elderly people from NOAH in Khayelitsha to Robben Island. Khayelitsha is a sprawling settlement of 1 million people, many of them living in dire poverty. It has been a dream for many of these “oldies” to visit the island and view the cell of Nelson Mandela. It was an emotional and inspiring day, from their singing of freedom songs, their dancing, and their stories of the brutality that they all experienced living under the Apartheid government.
